You are about to lose your: anxiety, intimidation, fear and ignorance over The Constitution.
In 1787-88, the proposed Constitution of the United States was the stuff of newspaper articles, tavern talk, and dinner table banter at family gatherings. People on ferries and stage coaches discussed it, casually or passionately. Farmers in their fields, pondered over it with neighbors. Sailors and fishermen, patriots and louts, parsons and sinners, each knew something about it, and, perhaps, had an opinion.
They were about to give it a thumbs up, or a thumbs down. Ratification or Rejection? They chose the former. It was their gift to you. Yes, you! You are that “Posterity”, to whom they referred in the very first sentence of the document. You are the “Posterity”, to whom they bequeathed the greatest gift one person, or generation, might give another - “The Blessings of Liberty”.
Not even Santa Claus can do that!
And, what about you? Have you ever opened the gift? Have you ever read it? If the document were entitled “Treasure Map”, you would be reading it at this very moment, pouring over it, deciphering and decoding its hidden clues?
You can bet you would!

Remember, that all we will be doing is putting ourselves in the shoes of the people of the day. There was no “constitutional law” to intimidate them. There were no “interpretive theorists” around everybody was an “originalist” - how quaint.
We can not defend it, if we don’t understand it. We can not understand it, unless we read their words – “The Words of the Fathers”.
You will be amazed to learn why they chose the words they did, and how they justified them to their brethren.
